RIP Donna Summer

Can you believe that the legendary Donna Summer is gone?

To us John and Jane Q public…she was the ever young gorgeous disco queen. In reality she was battling lung cancer and lost her courageous fight today.

Donna wore her hair unapologetically big and full and her lashes as long as possible. She rocked blue eyeshadow like nobody could. Her smile was beautiful and genuine. Donna wore whatever she wanted and looked amazing doing it. She could do full on glam or show a bare face and still be a photographer’s dream.

My favorite song of hers “She works hard for the money.”    I did a gymnastic routine to it in the 1980’s.

RIP to the lovely Donna Summer December 31, 1948 to May 17, 2012

Here is my mother’s college photo and a rare one of me with straight hair (don’t worry natural girls it is only blown out).  Disclaimer I am in my 30’s here but the family resemblance unmistakable.
While beautiful Mom isn’t a fashionista, but she prefers the Michelle Obama approach…she dresses modestly and for comfort mostly but will dress to the nines when the occassion calls for it.
One of my favorite childhood memories of the early 1980’s was watching Mom get dressed for my Dad’s military balls.  The process started early and she attended to every detail herself.  She made most of her own gowns so the tailoring was impeccable, hair and nails done with taste, make-up and jewelry just enough. All her shoes were in the original boxes and she was partial to sling-backs.
The biggest fashion lessons that Mom taught me:
Time and place, dress for the occasion
Great posture is essential
Less is more; let your natural beauty speak for itself
Put on your best smile
What is your favorite fashion moment with your Mother?

I had the pleasure of meeting NFL’s Chauncey Davis and his lovely fiancee yesterday at Lenox Square Mall’s Bloomingdales Mens Suiting Event hosted by Jezebel Magazine.  We talked about his diabetes foundation and Mens Style from his Gucci shoes to his Tom Ford shades. Read my interview with him on Examiner.com.

My new toy: Pinterest

I haven’t been blogging as much…sorry.  I HAVE been writing  more for Examiner.com, CBS Atl also via Examiner.com, AND Magazine and yes pinning.

I resisted Pinterst for awhile. My reason that I have two Facebook pages, a blog, a website, Twitter, a full time demanding job and yes a personal life so no more time for social media.  But my curiousity got the best of me and I started to research it.

Short story…Pinterest is a cool concept and is as time consuming (or not) as you let it big.

For those less tech obessesed (hi Mom) Pinterst is a collection of virtual concept boards. As you travel around the Internet, you can “pin” different pictures that inspire you.

So far I have 3 boards: Oscar Favs, My Style and Books Worth Reading.

Happy Pinning.
